Good afternoon,

I want to level with you; this Texas legislative session hasn’t been easy. Our team and our partners expected lawmakers to prioritize the most at-risk Texans after a global pandemic, a deadly winter blackout, and a historic uprising against racial violence. Instead, divisiveness captured the headlines, and we found ourselves in a climate that was incredibly challenging to the justice reforms demanded by communities.

But there were some bright spots—we had a handful of hard-fought wins that are bringing hope to Texas families. Versions of some of our most important bills, including family reunification and “Second Look” parole legislation, are waiting on the Governor’s desk as we speak.

Now, we’re facing down a 20-day veto period, during which the Governor can sign or veto bills. Your contribution between now and June 20th will help us keep up pressure on the Governor to get new justice laws across the finish line. Invest in justice reform before the clock runs out!

As we head into this veto period, you can follow along with the bills that are still moving in our latest blog post, which we’ll be updating continuously over the next 20 days. And stay tuned for our comprehensive bill analysis guide, which we’ll release later this year as bills begin going into effect.

Truly, I can’t thank you enough for standing by our side during this especially difficult session. And rest assured—our tireless team is more determined than ever to make a difference through their advocacy, research, and community-building work in the interim.

With gratitude,

P.S. Your donation today will help us fight ‘til the last minute to get these good bills into law. This is our last chance until Texas’ next regular legislative session begins in 2023!
